Remedy Entertainment has been able to pop a bottle of sparkly stuff to mark a pair of major milestones for Alan Wake 2. The celebrated survival horror game has now sold more than 2 million copies as of the end of 2024, and has now paid off its development and marketing costs. It’s all royalties and profit from here on out!

In their latest financial statement, Remedy states, “Alan Wake 2 sales exceeded two million units during the quarter. By the end of 2024, Alan Wake 2 had recouped its development fees and marketing investments, meaning that Remedy started to accrue royalties towards the end of the quarter.”

The tail end of 2024 saw plenty of Alan Wake 2 updates with the release of the second DLC expansion, The Lake House, as well as a PlayStation 5 Pro enhanced update for the game. Combined with end of year sales, this no doubt helped push the game over the cusp and into profitability.

That good news adds a little more momentum to Remedy’s broader plans within their connected universe of games, as the company has also confirmed that Control 2 has now entered full production, literally within the last month. This joins the ongoing work on FBC: Firebreak, the co-op shooter set in the same universe that is due out later this year, and Max Payne 1 & 2 Remake, which is being developed for Rockstar and Take Two. Both of those games are also in the full production stage.

Control 2 is being co-financed with Annapurna Pictures, lending the company the rights to produce an Alan Wake film or TV series, as well as for other Remedy IP. This is distinct and separate from Annapurna’s recently troubled game publishing arm, and Remedy will be able to self-publish.

Of the financing deal, Remedy says, “We were very happy to announce the strategic partnership with Annapurna in August, as well as the convertible loan from Tencent in September. With Annapurna, we can further grow our audiences and expand our franchises beyond games, whereas the financing from Tencent supports our self-publishing strategy.”
