Microsoft have a bit of a deal on for those of you with an Xbox Live Gold, Xbox Game Pass for Console or Xbox Game Pass for PC. For just £1 you can upgrade your current subscription for your cumulative Gold and regular Game Pass lifetime to the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, up to a limit of 36 months. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate usually costs £10.99 a month, so if you have already loaded your Xbox Live sub a year or two ahead you should be saving hundreds of pounds.
The Xbox Game Pass Ultimate has both Live Gold and Game Pass, so if you only have one of these subscriptions you get a shed load of lovelyness for less than the price of a cup of coffee. If you don’t have any of the subscrptions it might be worth picking one up (Amazon have a few offers on at the moment) and then using the deal to upgrade.
To get the deal, click here.
We don’t know exactly when Microsoft will be ending this offer, but their digital E3 sale ended last night and their promotions on physical games and consoles will be coming to an end on 23rd June. In other words, act fast!

I saw this the other day and people pointed out all sorts of weird terms attached to it.
You can only have 36 months of the ultimate game pass, but you can have more than 36 months of the normal one, or Gold. Anything over 36 months vanishes if you upgrade for £1.
And you can’t convert back afterwards. Ever. So if you decide you don’t want to keep paying £11 a month and just want to buy a year of Gold, you’re screwed. You’ll get 4 months of Ultimate instead for your 12 months.
Then again, if you bought 3 years of Gold now, at full price, and then paid your extra quid, you’d save £244.67 over the 3 years. Which might be enough to put off worrying about it for a while.
Avenger
Nope.
The offer, the 1:1 exchange of gold or xgp for xgp ultimate, is limited to 36 months, not the subscription itself.
You can absolutely change back after. Just turn off auto renew and buy a gold sub.
The terms are pretty simple.
MrYd
No, the 36 months is the maximum Ultimate subscription you’re allowed, as it says “The maximum time that can be applied to the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate plan is 36-months”
It also says “Any time over that will no longer remain in your account after you upgrade.”
And then there’s “All conversions to Ultimate are final: Once converted, you cannot re-convert your Ultimate membership back to a previous membership”
That’s from the FAQ at https://www.xbox.com/en-GB/xbox-game-pass
Note that’s not the special offer page.
The only issue is if that means you can’t convert to ultimate and then turn those months back into gold, or if it means your entire membership is now stuck on Ultimate.
It’s certainly not clear which they actually mean there. But it’s MS, and they’ve got a history of being vague at times and everyone assuming they meant the good thing when they really mean “the good thing for MS”.

Yes, there’s a hard 36 month limit to Game Pass in all forms and it affects this promotion. Just read the T&Cs (it’s not that hidden) and decide if that’s for you. It’s going to be a pretty extreme edge case for someone to have more than three years of these combined. If you do have a lot of Game Pass saved up alongside Gold, the benefits to Ultimate are minimal.
As for reverting to Gold, you can do this once the time of Ultimate has expired – turn off auto-renew and then buy a fresh Gold sub after it’s finished. Given that this is a 1:1 conversion in terms of time, there’s no reason to switch back while that Ultimate sub runs its course.
Pcis
When you go to apply this it’s £1 for the 1st month then £10.99 every month following until the subscription end, which as people have pointed out also can’t be cancelled, be careful guys, Microsoft is trying to pull a fast one
Stefan L
No, that’s incorrect. If you convert your subscription, you will not be charged until you’ve reached the end of that time. By default recurring billing will then take over and charge you monthly, but only after all your existing time is used up.
You can visit https://account.microsoft.com/services and log in to see when you will next be charged through recurring billing. You can also turn off recurring billing, at which point you will be told very clearly “Your Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription will not be charged again. You’ll lose access on [date].”
