As a resident of the sunny north of England my only dealings with GameStop have been during a trip to America. Yes, they did have two stores on the mainland but they have now been closed as the company launches GameStop.co.uk.
Having a quick glance around the new site it’s clear to see GameStop mean business with pre-order prices for the PS Vita coming in at £210 and £245, a black Nintendo 3DS for £155, as well as an exclusive Animus Edition of Assassin’s Creed Revelations.
Mike Mauler, EVP of GameStop International, had the following to say to MCV:
“The e-commerce market in the UK has scores of competitors from GAME to Play to… well, just about everybody.
But we bring some unique value. Being the world’s largest specialist games retailer means we can bring unparalleled value to existing ranges, exclusive products such as the Assassin’s Creed Animus Edition, and introduce value that isn’t there. For instance, our compelling 3DS offer.”

I might hold my horses, but this looks pretty good. Hopefully they’ll host the same amound of preorder bonuses that the US site does.
jaz101
still have to pay for shipping, dont like the fact that you pay for pre-orders when you place the order
i will stick to shopto.net
MrSpeedyGonzales
Same. Not even gamestop can beat shopto, next day delivery, free postage and the best pre-order value around!
Dan Lee
Not to be argumentative, but £210+shipping surely beats £229+no shipping? But yes, for me ShopTo is also the benchmark.

If you are talking about the PSP Vita then it’s free shipping:
“Please note there is free shipping (Royal Mail Tracked 1-2 days) for orders over £150.”
Zephyre
Odd, if they’ve just opened an e-shop how have they got such a stock of pre-owned games and hardware? Sure hope it’s not US stock they’re flogging
Zephyre
Oops, just checked the pricing on a few new-ish games and they’re going to struggle if they’re expecting anyone to pay those prices AND pay for postage. Dungeon Siege 3 for £31.97? Having a laugh.
PoorPaddy89
Gonna have to get the animus edition of Revelations now. Gonna be so thankful for my student loan between september and christmas. Too many games!
DJ Judas
Looks like some decent pricing, I’ll have to grab something from then at some point.
Problem with Pre-orders though is they say it’ll be dispatched on release day rather than guarantee arrival for release.
Smallville2106
Shipping FROM £2.00?? You’re having a right laugh.
I use a few sites for buying games and none of them charge for posting.
No thanks
bunimomike
They all charge for shipping, it’s just built into the price with many retailers. When it comes down to it, go with someone you trust and gives you a good service/price.
Smallville2106
Maybe. But no site charges £39.99 and then postage on top. Silly really.
Foxhound_Solid
@bunimo – completely right, nothing is EVER shipped FOC.

I noticed this the other day when I kept getting re-directed to the UK store. Some solid pricing too when I decided to have a look.

It’s always nice to have more competition to keep prices down but I think a lot of the independents won’t be too pleased.
DeathByNumbers
We’ve had Gamestop in NI for quite a while now, they do amazing trade-in offers like 3 guff games and £3 for any new release (£18 or less in real terms, though every time they extend it the range of accepted games changes). I know people have ordered things from the ie site as well when they have had good offers on. I’ll have a look later, always nice to have a bit of variety!

Just looked at the prices for some games that have been out for a while and they are all more expensive at Gamestop.
For example: Dirt3 Gamestop £33.97, ShopToNet £27.85.

At Tesco and game its under £20.00
