Uncharted 4’s Survival Co-Op Mode Will Be Available In December

Naughty Dog has lifted the lid on the co-op mode that would be coming to Uncharted 4’s multiplayer and has confirmed that this mode will be Survival. The mode is similar to the Arena mode of past games and it will have 50 waves to fight through with 10 different maps available to try and survive in. The enemies will include the standard mercs, brutes, and mystical enemies based upon the founders of Libertalia.

Up to three people can play together to fight through the waves, though that is not all that is required to advance. There will be objectives like taking out a certain target or collecting a certain amount of treasure. Alongside those objectives some rounds may have modifiers activated like pistols only. As you earn in game cash you can use it to upgrade your arsenal from various chests found in the maps.

Uncharted 4’s Survival mode will be available at some point in December.

From the heady days of the Mega Drive up until the modern day gaming has been my main hobby. I'll give almost any game a go.

  1. Well thats a bit disappointing – I thought the co-op mode would be levels/missions to fight through like in U2 as opposed to just a Survival mode.
Oh well, I’ll still give it a go as the objectives might make it more enjoyable than just surviving with no other purpose or goal.

  2. Well, it kind of makes sense; in the objective mode you are referring to you had a cutscene where they moved to an arena which included an objective and some waves of enemies to defeat in order to move on the next arena/objective.

Now it seems they have combined the modes from Uncharted 2 and 3 into one thus the number of waves is upped from 10 to 50 this time around. In other words it is going to be longer but you will get everything from the last UC co-op games in one package. Of course, for those that like shorter bursts of co-op, this will be disappointing. I, however, am totally game for this.

  3. Maybe I’m getting grumpy as I’m getting older, but so far, this gen has been let down after let down for me…

The 3 main things I’ve been looking forward to this gen haven’t really gone my way…

1st I’m ecstatic for Rainbow 6 – Then I discover its got no single player or co-op campaign, let alone the old style Terrorist hunts around large levels (Vegas style).

2nd I’m excited for the new BF – Only to then discover its set in WW1 and I’m really not a fan of the old weapons or era.

Then 3rd, I was pretty damn psyched for Uncharted 4 co-op Missions – Only to discover it’s only Survival mode (Hopefully I will find it entertaining after all).

It says something about games lately when all I mostly want at the moment is a current gen version of BFBC2 & the Rainbow 6 Vegas games… Rant over :)

    • To be fair, battlefield 1 has people running around with sub machine guns and LMGs that certainly weren’t standard issue for the time. It’s just BF4 with a WWI skin.

  4. A multiplayer co op mode with zombies? Sorry, I mean, mystically reanimated pirates.

    Amazeballs.

  5. Seems like they’ve tried to roll the ‘progression’ of the co-op adventure/story mode into the survival by having you change maps every few waves.

Not a real replacement for a proper co-op story mode though, I’ll be really disappointed if that doesn’t come along at some point.

    • Isn’t that what co-op adventure always was about: map changing arenas?

      • Well they were based on campaign missions and you were always progressing towards the end of the level rather than running around on a closed map. The co-op missions usually had wacky side stories as well.

They felt like a completely distinct mode to the competitive multiplayer, mostly because it took place on it’s own maps.

      • The Shep is spot-on.

  6. Sure, there were more locations but you couldn’t progress very far until you had removed all the “obstacles”, then a cutscene took over and they moved location; and then it started over again. To me at least that’s the same as map changing arenas.

    • There’s a distinct difference to me with fighting my way through a level to progress further through/into the level until I reach the end, rather than running around in circles on an open map seeing how long i can survive.
I’m not saying it wont be fun, just not exactly what I was hoping for – but it’s still co-op I guess.
